Everton 1-0 Watford: Everton Player Ratings

Everton have won their first game of the season in their home return, as they edged Watford at Goodison Park.

The Toffees were the better side throughout, although the Hornets had their fair share of dominant periods throughout the game.

Everton opened the scoring inside the first ten minutes, when Bernard latched onto a long ball from Lucas Digne down the left, cutting in on his right to shot low into the bottom left-hand corner.

Richarlison had a number of chances either side of half-time to double the host’s lead, with the second the most clear-cut chance, heading over the bar from a free-kick that dropped to the Brazilian at the near post and unmarked.

JP Gbamin played his first full 90 minutes for the club and Moise Kean enjoyed another spirited 20 minute cameo, while Alex Iwobi was kept on the bench due to an injury to Lucas Digne, with Mason Holgate replacing the Frenchman.
