Everton 1-1 Tottenham: Everton Player Ratings

Everton scored extremely late on to draw 1-1 with Tottenham in a game that was marred by VAR controversy and a horror injury.

Both sides were woeful in the first half, with a severe dearth of quality drastically impacting the standard of football. Richarlison had the best opportunities of the game, but his proclivity for throwing himself to the ground led to nothing coming from any of the half chances presented to him.

Dele Alli opened the scoring for Spurs, sliding past Jordan Pickford after the hour mark following a mistake from Alex Iwobi, and Everton should have been awarded a penalty shortly after, although even a VAR check couldn’t punish Alli for a clear and obvious handball in the box.

Andre Gomes then became the game’s main post-match talking point after a combination of a Heung-min Son challenge and a Serge Aurier collision led to his foot pointing in the wrong direction, a horrific suspected break that could see him on the sidelines for a long time.

With twelve minutes of added time, Cenk Tosun headed in a Lucas Digne cross to bring the scores level, although Everton fans will still have left Goodison Park feeling deflated and let down.
