Everton and Benfica battling for Spanish left-back

Everton and Benfica are reportedly ready to lock horns in the summer as they go in pursuit of RCD Espanyol defender Aaron Martin.

It’s claimed by Portuguese news outlet Record that the Toffees want to recruit the young full-back in the summer transfer window, with the club on the lookout for defensive reinforcements.

A new left-back has been on Everton’s agenda for some time now and, if Record are to be believed, Martin has emerged as a target for the Merseyside outfit.

Martin has previously been linked with a move to the Premier League, with the likes of Manchester City having been cited with interest. However, it appears as though Everton have joined the race to sign the 21-year-old now.

Everton face a huge summer this year as they aim to avoid a repeat of what has been an underwhelming campaign for the club this term.

Martin is sure to be hot property this summer, but it seems Everton fancy their chances of landing the promising full-back, who Espanyol will undoubtedly be desperate to keep hold of.
