Everton and two other Premier League clubs eye Bentaleb move

Everton are interested in signing Nabil Bentaleb, as are two other Premier League clubs, according to Foot Mercato.

The former Tottenham midfielder has fallen out of favour with current club Schalke in Germany, having failed to make a single appearance this season (WhoScored), despite being fit to play.

The Times reported last week that Bentaleb had been offered to Everton, with it said that the player is desperate to return to the Premier League, having spent the past three and a half seasons in the Bundesliga.

Crystal Palace are also interested in signing the Algeria international this month, as reports Foot Mercato, while the other Premier League club is currently unnamed.

Everton are in desperate need of midfield reinforcements, and with the 25-year old having been told he has ‘no real future’ in Gelsenkirchen, the Toffees could see an opportunity.

Sky Sports reported last week, when they referenced Crystal Palace’s interest in Bentaleb specifically, that the midfielder’s absence from the Schalke team is down to him possessing an ‘unprofessional attitude’, which, in our eyes, hardly works as a strong selling point for the Algerian.

Everton fans have had strong reactions to players with poor attitudes in the past, including Kevin Mirallas, and even current midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin, who was the brunt of criticism in the past (The Guardian).

While Everton, in our opinion, are particularly thin in the midfield department, Carlo Ancelotti and Marcel Brands need to ensure that the club sign the best character and personality for that role, as well as someone who has the footballing quality.

If Bentaleb has attitude issues as reported, I think Everton should avoid a potential deal as they don’t need to add further problems to the changing room.
