Everton in Halilovic tussle

Everton and West Ham are set to battle it out, yet again, to sign a player: this time over Barcelona youngster Alen Halilovic, writes Lluis Miguelsanz in today’s Sport.

The credible Spanish daily runs with reports that the Catalan giants are ready to sell a number of young La Masia scholars who they believe have failed to live up to expectations, and gifted Croatian youngster Halilovic is one of them.

Both clubs are in the market for a creative midfielder this summer, and have tabled offers in the region of £4.25 million for the diminutive former Dinamo Zagreb starlet.

West Ham are believed to be favourites to sign Halilovic in light of his relationship with fellow countryman Slaven Bilic, however, Everton manager Roberto Martinez will hope his own fruitful relationship with the Champions League winners will work to the Merseyside club’s advantage in the negotiations.

The Goodison Park side have already added former Barca winger Gerard Deulofeu to their squad, and are also credited with an interest in highly-rated Blaugrana duo Sergi Roberto and Adama Traore.

19-year-old Haliovic, whose dynamic running and cultured passing have made him one of the top young talents in the European game, has yet to feature for the Barcelona first team, but has been capped 7 times by Croatia.
