Everton team news latest ahead of Newcastle Carabao Cup clash

Everton are still waiting on several players ahead of Thursday’s Carabao Cup fourth-round meeting with Newcastle United at the Hill Dickinson.

David Moyes has not held a conventional pre-match press conference for the tie, leaving the fitness of Jarrad Branthwaite, Jack Grealish and Vitalii Mykolenko among the main questions before the game.

Branthwaite missed Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Arsenal while following concussion protocols, with no confirmation yet that the defender will be available to face Newcastle. Grealish was also absent at the Emirates because of illness and remains another player Everton will hope to have back. Mykolenko, meanwhile, was forced off in the second half against Arsenal, and there has been no further update on his condition.

Christian Nørgaard is available, although Moyes said before the Arsenal game that the midfielder remained short of full fitness after his recent absence. The size of the squad further complicates Everton’s options. James Tarkowski acknowledged in the club’s official cup build-up that Moyes does not have a large group to rotate, meaning several regular starters could be required again on Thursday.

The club has published its matchday and live-coverage information for Newcastle without providing a new injury bulletin, so late updates on Branthwaite, Grealish and Mykolenko could prove significant before Moyes names his side.
