Everton approach Marcelino about replacing Marco Silva

Everton have approached Marcelino about potentially replacing Marco Silva as the club’s manager, according to reports.

Pressure has been mounting on Silva over the past couple of months following a number of disappointing results in the Premier League.

Everton lost four consecutive matches in the league before recently beating West Ham 2-0 in a confident display, however they followed that result with a meagre performance in a 3-2 loss to Brighton last weekend.

With Watford in the Carabao Cup the next fixture for the club, to be played this evening, Silva’s job hangs in the balance and a loss could be detrimental to his Everton tenure.

Several prospective managerial candidates have been linked with the Everton job in recent weeks, should Marco Silva get the sack, and former Valencia boss Marcelino is the latest.

According to Cadena SER (via Everton Blue Army on Twitter), the Toffees have been in contact with Marcelino, with the Spaniard free to talk to clubs after leaving in Valencia in September.

Reacting to the story on social media, a number of Everton fans had mixed responses to the managerial link.

Marcelino is certainly someone who has the coaching ability to take on a challenging role like Everton.

With both Villarreal and Valencia in recent years, Marcelino has done a terrific job, and he was only sacked by both clubs because of disagreements he had with the board of directors.

Marcelino is someone who wants to have a hands-on approach to more than just naming a line-up, and if he can strike a chord with Marcel Brands, he could establish a solid working relationship at Goodison Park that would prove to be positive for the Blues.
