Everton are hopeful of shifting Niasse and Martina

Everton are hopeful that they will be able to shift both Oumar Niasse and Cuco Martina before the transfer window closes, according to the Liverpool Echo.

Since the beginning of the season, the duo have been surplus to requirements at Goodison Park, with Marco Silva not using either of them once during his time on Merseyside in this campaign.

Martina hasn’t made a single first team appearance this season, being named on the bench just once against Manchester United in December (Transfermarkt). Niasse meanwhile has made three appearances, one coming under Duncan Ferguson against United and the other two under Carlo Ancelotti in recent weeks, due to Richarlison’s short-term injury.

With Everton looking to either sell or loan the duo, who are both out of contract in the summer, the Liverpool Echo had reported last week that the club had been left frustrated as they hadn’t received a single offer for either of them.

While that still appears to be the case, according to the Echo’s new report, the club are now fielding more enquiries for the pair and are now hopeful that they will be able to get them off the wage bill soon.

In the meantime, both players are still taking part in training sessions at Finch Farm, with both having been part of the group led by Carlo Ancelotti this morning as the club prepare to face Watford.

Should Everton be able to shift Oumar Niasse and Cuco Martina before Friday’s transfer deadline, it could give the club more wages to play with in the transfer market, although there isn’t much time remaining to bring in fresh recruits.

Carlo Ancelotti’s squad is far too bloated currently, that’s for sure, and both Martina and Niasse are a drain on resources. It stands to reason that the club want to shift them both, but it could prove to be more difficult to convince another side to take them off the books at Goodison Park for a fee instead of simply waiting until they’re free agents in the summer.

Should Niasse leave before Friday, he will depart Everton having made just 35 Premier League appearances in four years (Soccer Base), while Cuco Martina will almost certainly end the season having made just 21 Premier League appearances (Soccer Base), whether he leaves this month or at the end of the season.
