Everton are interested in Hoffenheim midfielder Dennis Geiger, according to reports.

The 21-year defensive midfielder has impressed for the German side this season, and his form has seen a number of sides register an interest in his services.

Manchester City are also said to be keen, with Pep Guardiola a supposed ‘big fan’ of the Germany Under-21s international.

Sport 1 (via Sport Witness) report that Everton are simply observing Geiger at this stage, while their level of interest hasn’t led them to make contact yet.

The Toffees may need to act fast if they do decide to press ahead with their interest, because Bavarian giants Bayern Munich also have Geiger on their radar.

While Sport 1’s report doesn’t mention a transfer fee, it is expected that Geiger would prove to be a costly endeavour for any interested club.

Everton are in need of a defensive midfield recruit in January, so it would track that Marcel Brands would continue looking for young and promising players to fill that role.

While it might be ideal for the club to sign someone who possess more experience, such as Watford’s Abdoulaye Doucoure, Geiger would be a player who Everton could also develop for the future with.

As I’ve said with many of the players that I’m not overly well-versed with, if Brands and Silva have identified as the man to fill a gap, I’ll put my faith in their judgement until I’m proven that it isn’t to do so.
