Everton are interested in Newcastle goalkeeper Freddie Woodman, according to Chronicle Live.
The Toffees have been long-time admirers of the young shot-stopper, with Chronicle Live first reporting of Everton’s interest in early 2019.

Currently on loan with Swansea City, the 22-year old has yet to break through into Newcastle’s first-team, and the Chronicle report that he is approaching the age where he needs to be competing for a first-team spot.
Woodman is currently contracted to the Magpies until 2021, and the Chronicle report that neither Newcastle or Woodman himself want him to run into the final 12 months of his deal, while Everton and Tottenham could represent possible destinations.

Woodman has played 26 times for Swansea in the Championship this season (WhoScored) so far, which is more than can be said for Everton’s young goalkeeper Joao Virginia, who only managed two appearances in the league for Reading.
Football Insider reported in November that Everton are actively trying to sell Maarten Stekelenburg in this transfer window, and with Jonas Lossl having disappeared from the match-day 18 without much explanation over why, Everton are short on goalkeeping options to support and challenge Jordan Pickford.
Described as “a rising star” by then Kilmarnock manager Lee McCulloch in 2017 (via BBC Sport), Woodman has only gone on to do better things, with Swansea boss Steve Cooper claiming that he is “thriving” in the Championship this season. Perhaps then, with his age also taken into consideration, he could be the ideal long-term signing who can put pressure on Everton’s No.1.
