Everton are still interested in signing Nzonzi this month

Everton are still interested in signing Steven Nzonzi this month, and are ‘conducting transfer negotiations’, according to Futbol Arena.

The Toffees have been linked with Nzonzi multiple times over the past month, with Tuttomercatoweb first reporting of the club’s interest in mid-December.

The Frenchman is currently on loan with Galatasaray from Roma and has fallen out of favour in Istanbul, with Galatasaray confirming on Twitter that the 31-year old has been sidelined from the first-team squad following a training ground bust-up.

It has been suggested that Nzonzi could leave the Turkish Super Lig club this month, and Futbol Arena now report that Everton and West Ham are two of the clubs interested in bringing him to the Premier League.

Everton are on the hunt for midfield reinforcements after injuries and bouts of poor form have left them strapped for options this season, and the former Blackburn and Stoke man has emerged as a possible candidate to fill that role.

Futbol Arena also claim that Nzonzi has already turned down an approach by Sheffield United, as the World Cup winner feels that he needs to sign for a ‘bigger club’ in order to enhance his chances of going to the Euros in the summer.

Having played just under 200 Premier League games in the past, Nzonzi certainly has the pedigree and experience to succeed in the English top flight. Everton need someone to come in and immediately provide competition and add depth to the squad, and Nzonzi definitely has the attributes and requisite experience to suggest that the could do that.

Should Nzonzi consider Everton to be a ‘bigger’ club worthy of joining this month, I think it would benefit him to get regular minutes under his belt at Goodison Park, while it would also be extremely beneficial to Everton who wouldn’t necessarily need to pay a hefty transfer fee to land the Frenchman.

Should Andre Gomes and JP Gbamin come back to action in the fairly near future, and that is a big if, then Everton would have a solid and compact department of midfielders with Nzonzi added to the mix.
