Everton have been in negotiations with Chelsea today over a prospective deal for defender Fikayo Tomori.
It is no secret that the club are desperate to sign a centre-back before the transfer window closes on Thursday, and with Kurt Zouma looking ever the more unlikely, Marco Silva has been forced to turn his attention elsewhere.
According to Foot Mercato (via Sport Witness), Silva has made his decision over which player to target instead of Zouma, with the report claiming that the Toffees have now begun negotiations over a loan deal for Fikayo Tomori.

While negotiations have only just begun, the club are pushing hard to ensure they get the deal done before tomorrow’s deadline.

I can’t help but shake the feeling that Tomori is a thoroughly underwhelming signing to top off the window, although I am thankful that the rest of Everton’s business has been quite exciting.
I haven’t seen much of Tomori, with the starlet spending last season on loan with Derby County, but he is certainly not at the same level as Zouma was when he joined the club.
Zouma is now an established Premier League defender, whereas Tomori is inexperienced. While I would expect Michael Keane to line-up alongside Yerry Mina for the opening game of the season, I wouldn’t be too confident if one of the two defenders suffered a lengthy injury.
