Everton could open door to Carlos Alcaraz January exit on one condition

Everton could reportedly allow Carlos Alcaraz to leave the club in January, but only if David Moyes has secured a replacement first.

Football Insider reports that the Blues may open the door to a mid-season departure amid interest from Fenerbahce, with Alcaraz struggling for Premier League minutes during the opening weeks of the campaign.

The 23-year-old’s contract expires next summer, potentially leaving Everton with a decision to make rather than risk losing him for nothing at the end of the season.

However, the report claims there is one important condition attached to any prospective January move.

Everton want Alcaraz replacement first

Everton are said to be unwilling to consider allowing Alcaraz to leave until another player has been brought in to replace him. That would make sense given Moyes’ need to retain sufficient depth across his attacking midfield positions, particularly during the middle of a Premier League campaign.

Alcaraz has managed only five minutes of league football so far this season, with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall among those ahead of him in the manager’s plans. The Argentine initially joined Everton from Flamengo on loan in February 2025 before the move was made permanent that summer.

Fenerbahce have subsequently been linked with offering Alcaraz an opportunity away from Hill Dickinson Stadium, although there is no suggestion at this stage that an agreement has been reached.

That distinction is important. Everton are not reported to be actively pushing Alcaraz towards the exit door, with any potential sale dependent upon the club first strengthening Moyes’ options. His contract situation nevertheless means January could become a significant point in deciding his future.

If Alcaraz remains on the fringes and Everton can secure a suitable replacement, the Blues may have a decision to make before the transfer window closes.
