Everton closing in on Sosa move – is he the ideal midfield signing?

Everton are reportedly close to signing Santiago Sosa and his arrival would be one that merits great excitement.

The Mirror report that a move for the River Plate star is edging closer, in a deal worth £13million.

Sosa currently represents Argentina’s U19s and is thought of as one of the most promising young players in the country.

Marco Silva is looking to boost his midfield options ahead of next season and the 20-year-old’s arrival is one that makes complete sense.

Sosa’s preference is to thrive in a deep-lying role, dictating play with his passing range and also showcasing strong positional sense.

It is a position Everton have struggled to fill in recent years and Andre Gomes is not excepted to sign permanently after his loan move from Barcelona.

Sosa could be the ideal partner for Idrissa Gueye, if he stays, with the Senegalese doing the more thankless tasks in the middle of the park and the Argentine opening up opposition defences and running the show.

It is the kind of statement signing Everton need to make if they are to threaten the top six next season.
