Everton could expect to pay compensation in order to appoint Ancelotti

Everton could be expected to pay compensation to Napoli if they are able to appoint Carlo Ancelotti as their next manager.

The Italian was sacked by the Serie A club on Tuesday evening following his side’s 4-0 win over Genk, with tensions having been high at the San Paolo for some time now.

Both Arsenal and Everton have been heavily linked with the former Chelsea boss since then, and with him being an apparent free agent, both clubs wouldn’t expect much difficulty in landing his services.

However, Mail Online report that as of Wednesday the terms of Ancelotti’s departure had not been finalised, and it is not clear whether the 60-year old has been released in a clean break from the club or if he has been placed on gardening leave.

If it is the latter situation, then Everton will need to pay a compensation fee in order to release Ancelotti from his contract with the Partenopei.

Mail Online also report that Ancelotti still has a house in London from his time with Chelsea, and that that may give Arsenal an advantage if the three-time Champions League winner does commit to a Premier League return,

Arsenal are expected to take their time with their appointment process, which could give Everton an edge if they elect to move fast and begin negotiations with Ancelotti shortly.

If Ancelotti has been placed on gardening leave, that would provide Everton with a minor stumbling block, although if the club want the Italian strongly enough then it shouldn’t get in the way.

While the report claims Ancelotti would likely prefer the Arsenal job over the Everton role, it does also claim that the experienced coach is interested in what the Toffees have to say, meaning that an appointment isn’t out of the question for the Blues.

It remains to be seen how this situation will unfold, but it isn’t likely to do so with any immediacy, that’s for sure.
