Everton may already have head start in pursuit of transfer target as fresh opportunity emerges

  • Everton are once again being linked with Bologna defender Emil Holm.
  • Blues reportedly explored a move for the Sweden international in January window.
  • Previous scouting work could be an advantage if Holm becomes available this summer.

Everton’s recruitment team will spend much of the summer identifying opportunities that offer both value and minimal risk.

That process becomes significantly easier when the groundwork has already been done.

Fresh reports linking the Blues with Bologna defender Emil Holm suggest Everton could soon find themselves in exactly that position. The Sweden international has once again emerged as a potential target after uncertainty surrounding his future in Italy created a possible opening ahead of the summer transfer window.

For David Moyes and Everton’s football leadership team, the most important detail may not be the player himself, but the fact he is already a profile the club reportedly explored earlier this year.

Everton’s previous work could prove valuable

According to reports, Everton showed interest in Holm during the January transfer window before the defender later joined Juventus on loan from Bologna.

The move has not worked out as either side would have hoped.

Injury issues have restricted Holm’s involvement and reports in Italy suggest Juventus are unlikely to activate their option to make the deal permanent. That would leave the 26-year-old returning to Bologna this summer, with his representatives now believed to be exploring potential opportunities elsewhere.

For Everton, that scenario could prove beneficial.

Unlike many transfer links that emerge during the summer, Holm is a player the club have reportedly already assessed. Recruitment departments can spend months building detailed profiles on potential signings, analysing everything from tactical suitability and injury history to personality and long-term value.

If Everton’s interest remains active, much of that work has already been completed.

Why Everton must balance opportunity with caution

While the latest reports may appear encouraging, there is also a reason Holm’s future remains unresolved.

The defender’s recent injury problems are impossible to ignore.

Availability is increasingly becoming one of the most important factors in modern recruitment, particularly for clubs aiming to build depth and consistency across a long Premier League season.

That reality means Everton are unlikely to rush into any decision.

Instead, the club may view the situation as an opportunity to reassess a player they already know well while exploring whether the financial terms now represent better value than they did earlier in the year.

The broader story here is not necessarily about Everton chasing a new target.

It is about whether a player they previously identified as a potential solution has become more attainable under different circumstances.

In a transfer market where preparation often determines success, Everton’s earlier work on Holm could yet provide them with an important advantage.
