Everton eye Barcelona defender Todibo

Everton are interested in Barcelona defender Jean-Clair Todibo, according to reports.

The Blues are in desperate need of defensive reinforcements ahead of the January transfer window, and Carlo Ancelotti is likely to want to put his stamp on his new squad once the window opens.

Barcelona centre-back Jean-Clair Todibo has emerged as a new target, according to Catalonian outlet Sport (via Sport Witness), with Southampton and Manchester United also said to be keen.

The report claims that both Everton and the Saints have ‘entered very strong’ for the 19-year old, who Barca expect to be able to demand around €20million for.

The Catalan giants would likely insert a buy-back clause in any prospective sale of the defender, while it is believed that Todibo would rather remain at Camp Nou, despite his limited game time.

Todibo hasn’t played a great deal for the Catalan giants, but that isn’t always an indicator of the player’s lack of quality.

Everton had enjoyed a successful relationship with Barcelona in recent years, signing Andre Gomes, Lucas Digne, Yerry Mina and Gerard Deulofeu, which could lead the Blues into believing they have more of a chance of landing the 19-year old than Southampton might.

Whether the defender would want to come is the sticking point, but with Everton have shown clear ambition by appointing Carlo Ancelotti as manager, the club could now be seen as an exciting project worth buying into.
