Everton eye big-money move for Lille midfielder Ikone

Everton and Manchester United are interested in signing Lille forward Jonathan Ikone this summer, according to Le Quotidien du Foot.

The 21-year-old appears set to move away this summer, according to the French outlet, with Lille facing a tough battle to keep their young starlet.

Ikone can play both as an attacking midfielder as well as a right-sided winger, the latter of which position was specifically named as an area in need of strengthening by Marcel Brands in January.

As well as the Premier League duo, Sevilla are also said to be keen on signing the France international, who has scored three goals and registered six assists for Les Dogues this season.

According to Le Quotidien du Foot, it could take a big-money offer of around £62.4 million to land Ikone, with the Frenchman set to leave the Stade Pierre-Mauroy.

Being able to play both as an attacking midfielder and as a right-winger, Ikone could fill a vital role in Everton’s squad, with the club short in both positions currently.

Theo Walcott is Everton’s only natural right-sided winger at this moment in time, and with Carlo Ancelotti said to be willing to let him leave this summer, the club will surely need to reinforce that position.

Meanwhile, Gylfi Sigurdsson has failed to impress in the centre for Everton, scoring just once and assisting twice in the Premier League this season, while being constantly criticised by the Everton fan base.

Both positions are in need of reinforcements, and a big-money move for someone so young and so promising could pay-off for the Toffees in the long-term.
