Everton have opened talks over a season-long-loan deal for Inter Milan’s Xherdan Shaqiri and also want to sign River Plate’s Ramiro Funes Mori, according to the Guardian.
23-year-old Shaqiri has been linked with a move to Merseyside intermittently throughout the summer and has already rejected a move to the Premier League when he dismissed Stoke’s advances, as Mark Hughes’ men agreed a £12million fee.
The former Basel and Bayern star is already surplus to Roberto Mancini’s plans at Inter, who only completed the permanent signing of the winger in June.
The Toffeemen have been largely quiet during this transfer window, with Tom Cleverley and former Barca loanee Gerard Deulofeu the only new recruits.
Roberto Martínez has identified three positions he wants to strengthen before the end of the transfer window – central defence, behind the striker and up front.
24-year-old defender Mori is on Martinez’s radar and would add defensive cover to the Toffees line-up, after Sylvain Distin and Antolin Alcatraz were let go at the end of last season.
Mori has impressed at the back for River Plate and has won one cap for his country, Argentina.
The Blues have also been linked with a move for QPR’s Charlie Austin, but no official bid has been made.
UPDATE: Everton have agreed a fee to sign Xherdan Shaqiri, according to Swiss newspaper Blick.
Inter have now agreed terms with Stoke and Everton, with Shaqiri now deciding between both clubs.
Everton were reportedly favouring a season-long-loan deal for the former Basel star, but according to Swiss reports the club have agreed a fee likely to be in the region of £12million.
Shaqiri was seen in the Stoke directors box this afternoon as he watched his potentially new club play Liverpool in their season opener.
Regarding Charlie Austin, Queens Park Rangers have lowered their asking price to £13million, according to the Mirror.
Tottenham, Newcastle and Everton are all interested in the English forward.
