Everton eye move for Juventus defender Rugani

Everton will face competition from Arsenal and Leicester as they pursue Juventus defender Daniele Rugani, according to reports.

The Italian centre-back has emerged as a target for the Toffees, who are desperate to strengthen their defensive options during this transfer window.

Everton have just Yerry Mina, Mason Holgate and Michael Keane to rely on as senior centre-back options, and should injury strike, the club could be left in a difficult position.

According to Calciotoday (via Ninety Minutes Online), Everton have supposedly made an offer to the Bianconeri to sign the 25-year old, as have the Gunners and the Foxes.

The report claims however that Juve don’t want to let Rugani leave until the summer at the earliest, seemingly ruling Everton out of the running for the time being.

Having just made three appearances for Juventus this season, with only one coming in Serie A, it certainly seems as though Rugani has fallen out of favour under Maurizio Sarri (Transfermarkt).

Matthijs De Ligt and Leonardo Bonucci have been the regular starting pair for the Italian club this season, while Rugani also faces competition for Merih Demiral, and Giorgio Chiellini once he returns from injury.

With that in mind, it stands to reason that Rugani would likely consider a move away from Juventus in order to get regular game time, should Everton mount a proposal deemed acceptable by Juventus.

While the report mentions that Juve don’t want to lose Rugani, I would assume that the club aren’t completely beyond consideration. Rugani is a strong and dependable defender who can play has a solid range of passing ability, and who would prove influential in both defence and in attack. Should Carlo Ancelotti wants to bring the defender to Goodison Park, I would back Everton to make a move.
