  • Everton’s defence is in need of an upgrade for next season.
  • Toffees have already been linked with several defenders.
  • One particular area they will look to boost is at right back.

Everton’s final matches of the season have been characterised by weak defensive performances.

The loss of Jarrad Branthwaite in the Toffees’ Merseyside Derby defeat was a huge blow, and is part of the reason they have gone winless in their last six games.

David Moyes will aim to upgrade his defensive options in the upcoming summer window, with the Blues already starting to be linked with defensive targets.

Right back is one position that needs a revamp, and the Scotsman is eyeing a man who will be heading to the FIFA World Cup with Sweden.

Everton have an interest in Emil Holm

Emil Holm is currently on loan at Juventus from fellow Italian side, Bologna.

Juve are unlikely to make his move a permament one after the right back has only featured in minimal matches since moving to Turin in January.

With the Swede likely to return to Bologna, several clubs have an interest in the defender as his parent club may look to sell him on permanently, according to il Resto del Carlino.

Holm has struggled to settle down at the clubs he has played for in recent seasons, and has played for four clubs in Serie since the 2022-23 campaign.

The 26-year-old was part of the Atalanta that was victorious in in the 2023-24 Europa League, and won the Coppa Italia in the following season with Bologna.

Emil Holm would fit the physicality of David Moyes’ side

Consdering Moyes has opted to play Jake O’Brien in the right back position, instead of Nathan Patterson who is a natural full back, the Scotsman prefers his defenders to be strong and physical.

Standing at 6ft4in, Holm is certainly and presence on the pitch, yet this does detract from his ability to push into an opponent’s half with his pace, and whip in dangerous balls for attackers.

Everton are in dire need of full backs who have pace to match dangerous wingers in one-on-one situations, and on the flipside become part of the attack.

Holm’s future at Bologna is uncertain, and if the Italian side are willing to sell their right back, then the Toffees could swoop in and pick the defender up for an affordable price.

But this particular further confirms that a right back is on Moyes’ shopping list this summer.
