Several Everton fans have responded to speculation that the Toffees are interested in Southampton midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg with disdain.
The Southampton captain has emerged as possible target for Everton this month, according to Gianluca Di Marzio (via Sky Sports Transfer Centre), with the club looking to sign a central midfielder before the transfer window closes.
With just 18-months left on his contract at St Mary’s, Di Marzio claims that Southampton will look to make the most of a sale if a club does indeed shore up their interest in the Denmark international, with the Saints set to demand £35million for the 24-year old.
Hojbjerg has made just under 100 Premier League appearances for Southampton since signing from Bayern Munich in 2016, and having turned 24 in August, the Dane still has his best years ahead of him. Therefore the midfielder would be a respectable option for a sensible fee, as he would add steel and depth to Ancelotti’s midfield group.
However, for £35million, Everton should expect to land a player of a higher calibre, and if Southampton did stick to their valuation over their captain, then perhaps Everton would be best suited looking elsewhere.
These Everton fans agree that the club should consider alternative targets, with Hojbjerg certainly not coming across as the most popular of linking midfielders in the press…
