Several Everton fans have called for Mason Holgate to be included in Gareth Southgate’s squad for Euro 2020 this summer.
The 23-year old has impressed for the Toffees this season, with his progress in recent months described as “like having a new signing“, and the versatile defender has now become one of the first names on the team sheet.
Mirror Sport reported last month that Holgate could be in line for an England call-up as Southgate looks to reward the defender and experiment with his options in one of the final international breaks before the Euro 2020 tournament.
Michael Keane, who has been included regularly in England’s squad over the past 12 months, has been relegated to the bench at Everton, as a result of Holgate’s impressive performances.
Goal recently put out a tweet asking fans to choose four of eight potential options to be on the plane for the Three Lions, with Keane being one of them, and while Holgate wasn’t included on the list, several Everton fans believe he should have been.
