Everton fans delighted as Jordan Pickford ruled out of Leeds clash

Many Everton fans stuck the knife in when Carlo Ancelotti confirmed that Jordan Pickford would miss tonight’s clash with Leeds United following a knock.

The minor injury drew jubilation from some sections of the Everton fanbase as they look forward to seeing Robin Olsen come in for the England international, who has made 17 league appearances this season, keeping just three clean sheets and conceding 22 goals in the process (Transfermarkt).

The goalkeeper joined for almost £26m from then-relegated Premier League side Sunderland in 2017 but has been a regular source of controversy after high-profile errors and challenges.

Ancelotti confirmed in his most recent press conference that Pickford would be out with an ambiguous ‘side injury’. The ‘keeper appeared to injure his ribs in making a save in the 2-0 home defeat against Newcastle on Saturday, and the knock appears to only be a short-term inconvenience to the player.

In separate news, Fabian Delph was cleared as available whilst Allan and Jean-Phillippe Gbamin remain out with longer-term injuries (via @Everton on Twitter).

Some Everton fans on Twitter certainly weren’t mourning the confirmation of Pickford’s absence for the trip to Elland Road tonight…
