Several Everton fans have hailed Mason Holgate’s development following his 50th Premier League appearance against Burnley on Boxing Day.
The 23-year old defender started at centre-back for the Blues against the Clarets, marking a half century of appearances in the top flight since he made his Premier League debut for Everton in 2016.
Having begun the season on the bench, having spent the previous six months on loan with West Brom in the Championship, Holgate soon forced his way into Everton’s starting line-up under Marco Silva and he has remained an important player since.
Holgate has replaced Michael Keane as Yerry Mina’s mainstay partner in recent weeks, and many fans have showered praise on the defender for becoming such an influential player.
Taking to social media, a number of Everton players expressed their thoughts on Holgate’s rise through the ranks at Goodison Park.

I’ve always backed Mason Holgate as a potential star for Everton and I’m glad to see that he is winning more plaudits week on week for his excellent performances.
Between him and Yerry, Everton have a very competent defensive pairing, that only needs to be further strengthened in January now.
I certainly feel comfortable with Holgate and Mina lining up together for the time being, and hopefully they’ll both continue to develop and improve under Carlo Ancelotti’s tutelage.
