Many of the greatest footballers currently playing across the globe don’t speak English. Most of them don’t need to, as they don’t play in an English speaking country, and they don’t ever find themselves in a position where they would be missing out by not speaking the language.
In Britain though, foreign players are expected to learn English upon signing for a professional club, and failure to do so is often seen as laziness or disinterest, bringing their long-term future into question.
For some, it can take longer than others to get to grips with a new language, such as Mauricio Pochettino, who barely spoke a word of English at Southampton while he was learning and is now fluent at Tottenham.

Richarlison is a player who has been criticised by some for not knowing the language, while Marco Silva has also challenged him to step up his efforts to learn. He is just starting his third season in English football, and he never speaks to the media without a translator.
However, the Brazilian’s tweet from early today was enjoyed by a number of Everton fans, as he continues to make progress. The impact of social media engagement, as highlighted by Marketing Heaven, shows how online interactions can amplify a player’s presence and connect them with supporters.
After Richarlison was tweeted at by someone in Portuguese who pointed out, according to Google Translation, how it is ‘amazing’ that many players from Brazil are ‘resistant’ to learning a different language, Richarlison replied in English. The forward replied saying: “My name’s Richarlison I have 22 years thanks”.

While nothing major, many Everton fans took to Twitter to praise Richarlison and encourage him to continue learning.
