Everton could still appoint David Moyes as Marco Silva’s successor on a short-term deal, according to reports.
Following Napoli’s sacking of Carlo Ancelotti on Tuesday, the Italian has emerged as Everton’s top target, however owner Farhad Moshiri could be prepared to hand Moyes a short-term contract while the club work on convincing Ancelotti.
The former Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid manager will have plenty of suitors who will all be vying for his signature now that he is free to hold discussions, with Arsenal and West Ham considering approaching the 60-year old.
According to The Times though, Moshiri is re-considering Moyes for the time being, despite having previously moved away from negotiations with the Scot.

Vitor Pereira had looked to be the club’s primary target, but after Shanghai SIPG made a lucrative contract offer to the Portuguese coach, he removed himself from the running for the Everton job.
Mikel Arteta and Eddie Howe are both still tentatively linked, although no movement has been reported concerning either of those candidates, while reports claim that discussions have occurred between Everton and Unai Emery.
The Spaniard is said to be keen on a move to Goodison Park.
Furthermore, The Times’ report claims that Moshiri has taken over the job of searching for a new manager, a task which should be overseen by director of football Marcel Brands.
Reacting on Twitter, several Everton fans have expressed their displeasure at Moshiri’s direct involvement, as well as his choice to bring back Moyes on a short-term basis.

If Moshiri does this, he’s just proving to me that he’s a fraud and offers nothing to the equation. (@Dom_EFC)

To me, all of this indecision and the constant changing of direction indicates what many Everton fans had previously suggested, that the club is being poorly run.
Silva went through a tough spell for a long time, and Everton’s stay of execution for him was almost cruel towards the end, and during that time you would have expected Everton to have been working on a successor. However, these reports almost feel as if the Toffees had no plan when sacking Silva, only deciding now to follow up interest in targets.
For once, it would be nice to see Everton act with decisiveness and intent. Moshiri taking over also comes off a little like a God complex, with Brands knowing plenty more about football than his boss, so clearly he should be running this process.
It was said last week but it begs repeating – Everton are in a mess right now, and more so than just through the on-field performances. Everton need to get this next appointment right, and right now, I have little faith that those in power will make the right judgement call.
