Everton fans praise Holgate ahead of potential England call-up

Several Everton fans have heaped praise on Mason Holgate amid speculation that the defender could receive a senior England call-up.

Mirror Sport report that the 23-year old defender could be set to be handed a call-up by England boss Gareth Southgate, who is said to have been left impressed, having watched the player in Everton’s last three games.

Having started the season on the bench, Holgate has broken through into the starting line-up, having started 14 of his 16 Premier League appearances this season (WhoScored).

With Manchester City defender John Stones having suffered a dip in form this season, England don’t have an abundance of defensive talent to choose from, with Harry Maguire and Joe Gomez seemingly the only certainties ahead of the Euros in the summer.

Holgate though has shown that he has the versatility to become an asset for Southgate, while his consistent performance levels and his ability to bring the ball out from the back could make him a valuable squad addition for the Three Lions.
