Yerry Mina’s improvement so far this season has come as a surprise to many, with the Colombian coming on stronger week on week.
Following the loss of Kurt Zouma this summer following the expiry of his loan deal form Chelsea, many Everton fans were concerned whether Mina had the ability to step up to the plate and adequately replace Zouma as Michael Keane’s partner in defence.
The 24-year old has done so in fine fashion though, earning Everton’s Man of the Match award in the opening two Premier League fixtures against Crystal Palace and Watford.

Everton tweeted a video earlier this week of Mina psyching himself up in the tunnel at Goodison Park before the second-half against Wolves last Sunday, and a number of Toffees fans responded enthusiastically to the centre-back’s actions on social media.

Meanwhile several other fans instead hailed Everton’s goalkeeping coach, Hugo Oliveira, who was caught in the video giving a brief pep talk to motivate the players.

I’ve mentioned before how impressed I’ve been with Mina so far this season, but I’ll do so again. Not only does the centre-back defender resolutely, he also looks much more comfortable in possession and his positional awareness has improved drastically.
Once upon a time, Mina was seen as this big talent and was pursued by a number of the European elite before signing for Barcelona. Maybe we’ll get to see some extent of that talent realised this season if the defender continues to improve.
