Everton fans slam Ancelotti’s line-up to face Brighton

Several Everton fans have expressed their frustration online following the club’s line-up to face Brighton having been released.

Following Everton’s humiliating loss to Liverpool in the FA Cup last weekend, there will be plenty of pressure on the players to perform against the Seagulls at Goodison Park.

Making three changes from the team that faced Liverpool, Carlo Ancelotti has dropped Morgan Schneiderlin, Seamus Coleman and surprisingly Yerry Mina to the bench, while Tom Davies, Bernard and Michael Keane have replaced them in the starting eleven.

Gylfi Sigurdsson has claimed the captain’s armband following Coleman being dropped, with has proved to be a decision that provoked the ire of some fans.

Reacting on social media, a number of Everton fans slammed the club’s line-up ahead of their Premier League clash with the South Coast side.

Following the report from The Athletic earlier this week that talked about how several senior players had hit out at Ancelotti’s tactics against Liverpool, I had assumed, or rather I had hoped, that the Italian would have made more drastic changes for this game.

Gylfi Sigurdsson and Morgan Schneiderlin were both culpable against Liverpool with dreadful performances that largely saw them make no impact on the game whatsoever, and while Schneiderlin being dropped is justice, it does feel like a slap in the face for the fans for Gylfi to be handed the captain’s badge.

Whoever Ancelotti picked to start won’t matter as long as Everton come away with three points, but that line-up has made me, and many other fans it seems, uncertain that a win is guaranteed this afternoon.
