Everton fans want Gordon start against Arsenal

Everton fans have praised Anthony Gordon for making his debut for the club against Leicester on Wednesday, encouraging him to keep working hard to earn more minutes.

The 18-year old attacking midfielder has been on the edge of the first-team for most of this season, with Marco Silva having said on a number of occasions during the campaign that Gordon was “close” to making the leap to senior football.

Gordon has been a class above in the Premier League 2 this season, regularly impressing for David Unsworth’s Under-23s side, and he has finally been reward by caretaker boss Duncan Ferguson.

After appearing on the bench a number of times in recent weeks, Ferguson finally handed the starlet his senior bow against the Foxes, bringing him on in the 84th minute to replace Richarlison, as Everton scored a last minute goal to draw 2-2 and subsequently lose on penalties.

Speaking to evertontv after the game, Gordon expressed his delight at having finally achieved a lifelong dream, claiming that he just wants more now.

Reacting on social media, a number of Everton fans congratulated the young player, while some even called on the club to hand him a starting berth.

While it might be a little soon to start Gordon against Arsenal this weekend, I am delighted to see that he finally got his long awaited debut for the club.

His performances for the Under-23s have warranted his senior inclusion, particularly when you consider how poor some of the senior players have been these last few months, and Wednesday’s short cameo was testament to the work he has but into his game this season.

With Everton still suffering a midfield injury crisis, Gordon will likely line-up on the bench against on Saturday, and I wouldn’t be against seeing the 18-year come on to face the Gunners if Everton can afford to bring him on.
