Everton given boost in Donnarumma pursuit

Everton could be interested in signing AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, as translated by Sport Witness, and the Toffees might have an advantage.

The Italian outlet’s print edition claim that they believe Donnarumma will soon leave the San Siro, and they name both Everton and Paris Saint-Germain as potential destinations, with both clubs said to be keen.

At 21-years old, Gigio is one of the most coveted young players in Europe, and while Liverpool and Manchester United were previously interested, it seems unlikely that either Alisson or David de Gea could be replaced at this point.

While PSG might make more logical sense, given Gigio’s potential and PSG’s elite stature, the young shot-stopper’s choice of agent could hand Everton an unexpected advantage.

After joining Everton in 2018, it was revealed that not only is director of football Marcel Brands represented by Mino Raiola, but they also have a strong working relationship which Farhad Moshiri hoped would be used to bring players to Goodison Park.

This relationship was used to good effect last summer when Raiola-managed Moise Kean joined Everton in a somewhat surprising transfer for a highly-rated up-and-coming star.

Raiola is also Gigio’s agent, which could mean that Everton have the inside track advantage if Raiola is able to use his relationship with both Everton and Brands to bring the Italy international to Goodison Park.

Jordan Pickford has been frequently criticised this season for being inconsistent and for making too many mistakes, and Gigio could be the ideal candidate to replace the England international as the Toffees’ first choice goalkeeper, particularly with Gazzetta’s report claiming the Italian could be available for as little €25 million.
