Gremio director Klauss Camara claims that there has been no formal contact over a deal for Everton Soares from Everton over the weekend, according to Zero Hora (via Sport Witness).
Earlier this week, UOL claimed that the Toffees had ‘great optimism’ over finalising a deal to sign the 23-year old before Friday’s deadline, with a €30million bid set to be launched imminently.
However it now appears as though there has been no development from Everton’s end, with Gremio claiming not to have received any bids for the versatile forward.
Speaking to local Brazilian press on Sunday (via Sport Witness, who cite Zero Hora), Camara commented on speculation about both Jean Pyerre and Everton Soares’ respective futures, saying:
It’s important to measure that there are many interests via the internet, Twitter and social networks. We actually consider a proposal which is formalised and delivered to the club. And this didn’t happen, so we don’t consider any kind of interest.
Furthermore, Globo Esporte claim that financial fair play is the reason that Everton have not yet been able to make a bid for their namesake, claiming that they may now wait until the summer.
The Brazilian outlet claim that with Everton recently announcing record financial losses, and with plans to build a new stadium in the near future, the club don’t have an awful lot of money to play around with, although Sport Witness correctly point out that a new stadium wouldn’t actually impact FFP.

It is slightly concerning to see that Everton have come so close to the transfer window deadline without having made any significant signings, especially with the club in desperate need of strengthening in a number of positions.
Currently it appears as though Everton Soares and Inter Milan midfielder Matias Vecino are the most likely recruits, with no centre-back target having been clearly identified as a possibility before Friday. However, it is the Blues’ tendency to play hardball and not compromise over a fee that has seen them go this deep into the window without having brought in a new player.
It is frustrating because the club appear to lack any drive to get deals done earlier. Liverpool announced the signing of Virgil van Dijk in December 2018, and Takumi Minamino in December 2019, proving that if you have a target and are committed to signing them, you can get business done before the window even opens.
Marcel Brands typically does not like the January window, but Everton fans will now have to hope that the club can pull out the stops to bring at least one fresh face to Finch Farm before the week is up.
