Everton had scouts watching Germany Under-21s star Julian Chabot on Thursday, according to reports.
The German youth side took on Spain Under-21s, where Sampdoria defender Chabot played the first half.
The 21-year old signed for the Serie A side in the summer from Groningen in the Netherlands, and he has made three appearances in the Italian top flight so far this season.

TuttoMercatoWeb claim that the Toffees had scouts in attendance to watch the young defender, with the club’s representatives having ‘closely followed’ the centre-back throughout the game.
The Blues are in desperate need of centre-back reinforcements in the January transfer window, having just Michael Keane, Yerry Mina and Mason Holgate as senior defensive options at the club currently.
Chabot could be seen as a potential winter recruit, although if Sampdoria do sell him so soon it would likely be for a significant profit on the €3.7million they spent in the summer.

Chabot could certainly be considered as a much cheaper alternative to many of the other centre-backs linked with the club. Having penned a five-year deal in Genoa, it would likely cost around £10million to pry the defender from Sampdoria.
This would obviously be a snip, given the money Everton are said to be willing to spend on landing a long-term defensive recruit.
With Chabot now first choice at Sampdoria, and as a German youth international, his signing could potentially be good business, presuming the fee is kept to a reasonable rate.
