Everton hopeful that Delph will be available for Saints clash

Everton are hopeful that Fabian Delph will be available to face Southampton this weekend, according to Sky Sports.

The former England international didn’t train on Tuesday after picking up a slight knock against Tottenham at Goodison Park on Sunday.

Everton travel to St Mary’s this weekend and Silva will be under added pressure to perform against the misfiring Saints, following another drab Everton performance against Spurs.

Concerns over Delph couldn’t come at a worst time for Everton, who have just lost Andre Gomes for some time due to a fractured dislocation of his ankle, sustained against Tottenham.

Fellow summer signing JP Gbamin is also still on the sidelines, leaving just Tom Davies and Morgan Schneiderlin as midfield options if Delph isn’t fit to play, while Gylfi Sigurdsson could play deeper.

However Everton hope that the former Manchester City man will be fit enough to feature on the South Coast.

Following the Gomes incident at the weekend, Everton absolutely need Fabian Delph to be fit to face Southampton.

I’ve been a defender of Morgan Schneiderlin in the past but I do not feel confident with Tom Davies and Morgan as the midfield duo, not with so much pressure having over the club right now.

Everton need to be as resolute and solid as possible, and that will come from Fabian Delph, who is undoubtedly the anchor of the remaining options.

Davies will start, and rightly so, but he needs the cool head of Delph alongside him.
