Everton identify potential Gueye successor

Everton reportedly have identified their preferred successor for Idrissa Gana Gueye, should the midfielder leave Goodison Park.

Interest from French champions Paris Saint-Germain has been rumoured for some time now, but no official bid is understood to have been made.

Thomas Tuchel’s side are on the lookout to replace outgoing star Adrien Rabiot, who is supposedly on the cusp of joining Barcelona.

With a £40 million valuation on Gueye, Everton director of football Marcel Brands has marked out Wilmar Barrios of Boca Juniors as his ideal replacement for the Senegalese man.

The 25-year-old has been at Boca since 2016, and has made 47 appearances for the Argentine club.

Sent off in the decisive Copa Libertadores second leg, the defensive midfielder had to watch his side go down in an agonising defeat to arch-rivals River Plate.

Reports are suggesting that Boca would accept a bid of around £20 million for Barrios, although his release clause is said to be marked at £23 million.
