Everton identify potential replacement for Steve Walsh

After a summer of failed player recruitment, Everton are set to shake up their transfer strategy.

According to a report from Sky Sports, PSV Eindhoven’s technical director Marcel Brands is set to join Everton and could be in place as early as the end of April.

PSV are on the precipice of their 24th league title with five games left to play and it is believed that Brands’ departure will be rubber-stamped once the Dutch club are confirmed as champions.

Brands first came to prominence at AZ Alkmaar where the club ended a 28-year long wait for a league title just three years after he joined. During the 55-year-old’s time at the club, Brands oversaw signings such as former Southampton striker Graziano Pelle, current Manchester United goalkeeper Sergio Romero and Spurs midfielder Mousa Dembele.

Brands would go on to join PSV in 2010 and the club have picked up six honours in that time with his signings including the likes of Gini Wijnaldum, Kevin Strootman, Davy Propper and Dries Mertens.

With Brands now seemingly imminent to join Everton, current director of football Steve Walsh could see his time at the club cut short less than two years since his arrival.

Walsh’s time at Everton has been marred with expensive signings failing to live up to their billing and glaring oversights to much-needed positions such as left back and the struggle to replace Romelu Lukaku.

matchday.
