Everton identify Ten Hag as Silva successor – why he’s the perfect appointment

Everton have identified Ajax manager Erik ten Hag as their preferred choice to replace Marco Silva as manager.

The Portuguese coach has come under heavy fire in recent weeks following a string of terrible results, culminating in the current situation where Silva appears to be on thin ice.

When the recent results are partnered with the amount of money the club are spending in the transfer market, it is no wonder that so many fans have called for Farhad Moshiri to swing the axe.

Everton are currently 18th in the Premier League with just seven points after eight games, and while it isn’t clear if and when Moshiri will pull the trigger on Silva’s Everton career, the club know who their next target will be.

According to a 90min exclusive, Marcel Brands is on the lookout for potential replacements and he has identified his compatriot Ten Hag to take on the role. More excitingly, Everton are also confident that they could tempt him to leave the Johan Cruyff Arena.

Ten Hag led Ajax to the Champions League semi-final last season against all odds, and was handed a huge new contract in the summer, although that hasn’t scared Everton away as the club still feel they could get their man.

Brands is still eyeing other options, but Ten Hag is considered the priority.

With almost every story online you have to take it with a pinch of salt but this really excites me. Of all the names thrown around on social media to replace Silva, Ten Hag would have been my personal pick, so this is a great story to read.

Ten Hag gets his side playing great, free-flowing attacking football and he champions youth involvement in the first-team. He also favours the 4-3-3 formation, a system Silva has seemingly refused to try for Everton and one I think the club could benefit from.

It remains to be seen whether Everton could actually tempt Ten Hag, with the Dutchman currently managing in Europe and the Toffees can’t offer that, but if he would be tempted I think Everton should go all out for him and pay Ajax whatever they like.
