Everton injury and fitness tracker 2026/27: Rohl and Norgaard latest

Keep track of Everton injuries, fitness concerns and expected return dates throughout the 2026/27 season.

David Moyes has received a welcome boost during the international break, with Christian Norgaard back in first-team training at Finch Farm as he works towards his Everton debut.

Merlin Rohl is also expected to return after the break, while Harrison Armstrong has shaken off the minor problem that briefly kept him out last month.

For a squad that remains relatively small, Everton have so far been fortunate with injuries. Moyes hasn’t had to deal with a lengthy list of senior absentees during an unbeaten start to the season.

Christian Norgaard – central midfield

Status: Back in training
Issue: Groin
Possible return: Hull City – 11 October

Norgaard is still waiting to make his competitive Everton debut following his £7m summer move from Arsenal.

His recovery took longer than initially expected, but the picture is now much more encouraging. Everton’s official training images showed Norgaard back working with the group at Finch Farm this week.

Moyes had previously hoped the 32-year-old would be able to step up his recovery during the international break. His return to the training pitches suggests that process is now well under way, although Everton have yet to confirm that he will be available at Hull.

The planned behind-closed-doors friendly against Blackburn Rovers could provide a useful opportunity for Norgaard to get some match minutes before the Premier League resumes, provided he is considered ready.

Merlin Rohl – midfield

Status: Recovering
Issue: Minor injury
Possible return: Hull City – 11 October

Rohl has missed Everton’s last three matches after picking up an injury following the 2-2 draw with Manchester United on 6 September.

The German started each of Everton’s opening three Premier League games before sitting out Tottenham, Wolves and Ipswich.

Moyes said before the Ipswich game that Rohl would remain unavailable but indicated that he was expected back after the international break. The three-week gap between competitive fixtures has therefore arrived at a useful time.

Like Norgaard, Rohl could potentially benefit from the Blackburn friendly if he is sufficiently advanced in his recovery. There has been no confirmation that he will play, so any involvement will depend on his fitness.

Harrison Armstrong – fit

Status: Fit
Issue: Minor training injury – recovered
Return: Ipswich Town – 19 September

Armstrong can remain firmly off the injury list after returning to the starting XI against Ipswich.

The 19-year-old missed the Carabao Cup victory over Wolves after suffering a minor problem in training, but recovered in time for the following Premier League game.

He has since joined up with England Under-20s during the international break, adding further reassurance that the problem is behind him.

Moyes’ small squad has stayed relatively healthy

Everton’s relatively clean bill of health has been particularly useful given the size of Moyes’ squad.

The manager hasn’t had huge numbers to work with, and a serious run of injuries would quickly test the depth available to him. So far, that hasn’t happened.

The international break has also provided a chance to manage the workload differently. Moyes confirmed that those not away with their countries would receive more downtime during the unusual three-week gap between Premier League matches.

After a few days to recharge their batteries, the players remaining on Merseyside are now back at work at Finch Farm. The latest training images suggest a relaxed group enjoying being back together, which is perhaps unsurprising after an unbeaten opening to the campaign.

There is still work to do before Hull. The Blackburn game should help Moyes keep his available players match-sharp while potentially offering Norgaard, Rohl and others short of minutes a controlled opportunity to build their fitness.

With Norgaard back among the group and Rohl moving towards a return, Everton could emerge from the break with more options than they had going into it.

This tracker will continue to be updated throughout the season as Everton’s injury and fitness picture changes.
