- A European place next season will have added budget for Everton to reinforce the squad.
- Lewis-Skelly has just started one game this season for Arsenal.
Everton’s season has exceeded all expectations. David Moyes’ side sit eighth in the Premier League table, just three points off fifth place and the Champions League spots that England’s coefficient ranking has likely secured. European football now looks a genuine possibility for next season. Everton’s recruitment team are already planning for a busy summer at Hill Dickinson Stadium.
One name has emerged as a serious target. The 19-year-old Arsenal defender has seen his first-team opportunities dry up this season after a breakthrough campaign last year. A move away from North London could be on the cards.
Why Lewis-Skelly is on Everton’s radar
Myles Lewis-Skelly was one of the brightest talents in the Premier League just 12 months ago. The teenager featured in 39 games for Arsenal last season and earned his first senior England cap. But this campaign has been a different story.
The arrivals of Piero Hincapie and Riccardo Calafiori at Arsenal have pushed him down the pecking order. Lewis-Skelly has made just one Premier League start and has played only 312 minutes in the competition.
Arsenal remain convinced of his long-term potential. However, they are now receptive to letting him leave on loan to aid his development.
Caught Offside reports that the Gunners are open to a temporary move for the 2026/27 season, with the teenager keen to secure regular game time after missing out on England national team contention.
Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness believes the links have substance. Speaking to Goodison News, he said: “Yeah, this is one that I do think has got some credence. I think there may be some mileage to this. I think his age is right. I think his experience to date is right, and I think he’d benefit very well with Moyes.”
The Arteta-Moyes connection
Wyness also pointed to a key factor that could work in Everton’s favour. “I think that this is also the connection between Moyes and Arteta, which may well come to fruition on this one,” he added.
Mikel Arteta and David Moyes have a strong relationship from their time together at Everton, where Arteta played under the Scot. That connection could help negotiations for a player who is seen as a versatile option, capable of operating at left-back or in central midfield.
Everton are monitoring Lewis-Skelly’s situation closely, with the left-back open to moving on from Arsenal. A loan move with guarantees of regular playing time would suit all parties. Everton need squad depth across multiple positions, and the teenager offers quality on the ball, defensive cover and significant potential for growth.
Crystal Palace and West Ham are also interested, but Everton believe the Arteta-Moyes link and the promise of regular minutes could give them the edge. With European football potentially on the horizon, Hill Dickinson Stadium could be the perfect stage for Lewis-Skelly to relaunch his career.
