Everton are reportedly interested in signing Chelsea full-back Reece James, who is valued at around £15 million, according to the Liverpool Echo – but would he be a good signing for the Toffees?
The 19-year-old spent the 2018/19 season on loan at Wigan in the Championship, where he was the star of the side and has impressed Everton scouts while playing at the DW Stadium.
He is yet to play a first-team match for Chelsea, however, he played a total of 45 matches for the Championship side in the 2018/19 season, which is quite incredible for a player in his debut season of first-team football.
The defender played so well in his time that those in Everton reportedly believe he is ready for the jump to the Premier League. It is very unlikely that he’ll push his way into the Chelsea side, so a move to Merseyside could prove to be a great move for his career, where he will get more games and experience at a higher level.
James is a versatile player who can play in midfield or in defence. He boasts terrific pace and dribbling qualities which makes him dangerous going up and down the flanks. His favoured position is right back, which would be a worry for Seamus Coleman and Jonjoe Kenny, as it is very unlikely that there will be a place for all three in the squad.
This could very well be a signal of intent from Everton, however, as they look to find the perfect long-term replacement for Coleman, who is approaching the latter stages of his career.
Time will tell if Everton do make an offer for the young prospect. It is likely though, but should they manage to convince Chelsea to sell, this could be a very impressive piece of transfer business.
