Everton have registered an interest in signing Newcastle United winger Jacob Murphy, according to Sky Sports News.
The 31-year-old has 12 months left on his contract at St James’ Park and could be allowed to leave this summer as part of a wider squad overhaul on Tyneside.
Sky Sports’ Keith Downie reported that Murphy is one of a number of players Everton are considering as they look to add depth to their attacking options, alongside a possible return for Jack Grealish following his loan spell last season. No formal offer has been made for Murphy at this stage, though interest from Goodison Park is understood to be genuine.
Murphy has been at Newcastle for nine years since signing under Rafael Benitez in 2017. His best campaign came in 2024-25, when he registered nine goals and 14 assists in all competitions, including 12 Premier League assists. His output dropped off last season, and Newcastle have already signed Bazoumana Toure from Hoffenheim as an alternative option out wide.
The Magpies have had a busy summer of departures, with Anthony Gordon’s move to Barcelona and Sandro Tonali’s switch to Tottenham already completed, and Kieran Trippier also leaving the club. Gordon, who played 90 times alongside Murphy at Newcastle, is understood to rate him highly as a teammate.
David Moyes has already brought in Hayden Hackney and Tyrique George this summer as Everton look to build on a season that left them within touching distance of European qualification.
Murphy would represent a different profile of signing to those two — experienced Premier League know-how rather than young and up-and-coming — but still fits the reliable, hard-working template Moyes has favoured throughout his career.
