Everton have received no approaches for James Garner, according to TEAMtalk’s Harry Watkinson, with the club maintaining the 25-year-old is not for sale.
The denial contradicts an earlier report from Pete O’Rourke, which claimed Aston Villa were readying a renewed move for Garner and had made an approach for him back in January. That report, covered on this site earlier this week, suggested Villa’s long-standing admiration for the midfielder was set to translate into fresh contact this summer.
Watkinson’s update suggests otherwise, at least for now. Garner signed a new four-and-a-half-year contract at Everton in January, tying him to Goodison until 2030, and Moyes has been consistent in describing him as central to his midfield plans.
The claim of no approach having been received doesn’t rule out Villa’s interest existing in principle — the two things aren’t mutually exclusive — but it does undercut the idea that formal contact has already been made.
Garner has been one of Everton’s most reliable performers this season and won his first England caps during the international window, the kind of form that tends to attract suitors regardless of contract length.
Everton’s stance, on this evidence, hasn’t shifted: not for sale, and no approach to consider even if it had been.
