Everton: Journalist drops claim on Anthony Gordon contract talks

Journalist Simon Phillips has dropped a behind-the-scenes claim regarding Everton’s hopes of securing a new contract for Anthony Gordon.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Phillips had this to say on the matter: “It will be interesting to see what kind of decision he makes on that. [Frank] Lampard will get involved again and try and convince him to stay. It will be a big decision for him to make because I think Chelsea will be back in.”

As Phillips mentioned, Chelsea were heavily linked with a £60m move for the Toffees winger during the recent summer transfer window.

After that, the Merseyside club have been working on getting Gordon to put pen to paper on a new deal at Goodison Park.

With 67 senior appearances under his belt for the Toffees, the 21-year-old has scored six goals and supplied eight assists.

Having started all seven league games for Lampard’s side in this campaign, the winger has scored two goals and racked up more shots at goal (18) and more shots on target (13) than any other player at the club.

This showcases just how reliant the Everton boss is on the youngster and why he’d presumably be desperate to keep hold of Gordon for as long as possible.

In addition to that, the Englishman has the highest rate of shots on target per 90 minutes (1.94) at the club, which is the fifth-highest in the entire division.

Now that Phillips has claimed that Lampard will be involved in the contract talks and will try to convince the winger to pledge his future to Everton, this will surely be music to the ears of a lot of supporters at Goodison.

Moving forward, if the club and Lampard can get Gordon to sign a new deal, this will surely be great news for everyone connected to Everton and put to bed any future speculation about his future.
