Everton urged to walk away from Liam Delap amid doubts over commitment

Everton have been urged to abandon any move for Chelsea striker Liam Delap if he is not fully committed to a switch to Merseyside, with former club chief executive Keith Wyness telling Football Insider that “dithering” from the player would not sit well with David Moyes.

Speaking on Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness said Moyes would only want the 23-year-old at Goodison Park if he is genuinely keen on the move, adding that any hesitation on Delap’s part should be enough to end Everton’s interest. Wyness worked alongside Moyes for several years during his time at the club and is well placed to read how the Scot is likely to react.

The comments follow an earlier Football Insider report that Delap is hoping to remain at Chelsea and fight for his place under new head coach Xabi Alonso, rather than push for a move away from Stamford Bridge this summer.

Everton were keen on Delap before his move to Chelsea 12 months ago, and links between the two parties have resurfaced in recent weeks as Moyes continues to assess his options up front. It has not been a straightforward debut season for the striker, however, with just three goals in 47 appearances across all competitions following his switch from Ipswich Town.

Should Delap’s stance harden into a firm decision to stay and fight for his place, it would leave Everton to focus their forward-line search elsewhere, with the club having already been credited with interest in Christian Kofane this summer as they continue to strengthen their attacking options under TFG ownership.
