According to an exclusive report from The Express, Everton are lining up a double swoop for out-of-favour Manchester United duo Memphis Depay and Wayne Rooney, with The Toffees reportedly having the first refusal to sign the latter.
Speculation has been rife surrounding both Depay and Rooney’s futures at Old Trafford under Jose Mourinho and the general consensus is that the young Dutch winger is to join Everton this January, whether it be on an initial loan deal or a permanent deal.

However, the most interesting aspect of the report is that Everton are claimed to be in pole position to land Rooney in the near future, despite a host of Chinese clubs looking to sway the England captain with their riches.
Rooney started his career at Goodison Park and it’s been no secret that they’ve taken an interest in his current uncertain situation at United, so a move in the summer looks to be on the cards.
