Everton make Perotti enquiry – would he be a worthwhile signing?

Everton are reportedly interested in signing Diego Perotti from Roma this summer, but would he be a worthwhile addition to Marco Silva’s squad?

According to claims from Italian news outlet Leggo, as translated in a report from Sport Witness, the Toffees have already lodged an enquiry about the possibility of luring the experienced forward to Goodison Park.

Perotti could be on his way out of Stadio Olimpico this summer, and as such, clubs are beginning to circle. However, would he be a smart signing for Everton?

It goes without saying that the Toffees will need to add to their attacking options ahead of next season. Cenk Tosun has failed to convince, and whether or not the Toffees can rely on Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison in his unfavoured striking role for another campaign is uncertain.

Perotti possesses creative qualities that Silva tends to lean towards. He is technically gifted, plays effectively on the half-turn and is capable of both inventing chances and taking them.

He is also able to play out on the left-hand side, but he has developed into a more centrally-operating player as he has aged.

Perotti does still have something to offer, but there are certainly question marks over whether or not Everton really need to sign a short-term player such as him, given that the Argentine is 30-years-old and has encountered his fair share of injury troubles.

If the Toffees can tie up a cheap deal for the player, it may not be a bad signing by any means. However, as they begin to push into a vital season, they must look to the future, and players of a more suitable profile may be better suited to what Silva is building on Merseyside.
