Everton made a small profit from the sale of Ramiro Funes Mori, according to the Liverpool Echo.
The Argentine defender joined Villarreal on Thursday, having spent three years with the Toffees, signing a four-year deal with the La Liga outfit.
Signed by Roberto Martínez for around £9.5million in 2015, Funes Mori struggled for game time last season, having spent the vast majority of it out with a long-term knee injury.
With Marco Silva and Marcel Brands committed to moving on several players to reduce their squad depth this summer, Funes Mori is one of the earlier players to leave Finch Farm, following fellow senior squad member Joel Robles.
Rumour circulated online last night that claimed Everton had made around £17.5million from the sale, a significant profit on the 27-year old, which fans seemed particularly excited yet shocked to hear.
However, while they don’t reveal an exact figure, the Echo claim that the price tag was much lower. Everton do however recoup their initial investment, while also making a little profit.
Funes Mori may just be the first centre-half to leave Goodison Park this summer, with Ashley Williams also likely to leave Merseyside.
