  • Everton will aim to sign a right back in this summer’s transfer window.
  • The club have already been linked with an array of full backs.
  • One name rumoured is ex-Liverpool defender Neco Williams.

Everton have prioritised a need to upgrade their defensive options in the summer transfer window.

The club are specificially searching for a right back, having played Jake O’Brien on the right side of the defence, even though he is a centre half.

David Moyes’ side have been linked with various right backs, with options from multiple leagues being considered.

In an effort to find a defender who is able to cope with the pressures of the Premier League, the Toffees are paying attention to a product of Liverpool’s academy.

Everton are keeping their eyes on Neco Williams

Neco Williams has been a key man in Nottingham Forest’s defence since moving there in 2022.

He played 35 Premier League matches in a season that saw his team finish seventh, and featured 15 times in their Europa League campaign, as he helped them reach the semi finals.

The Welshman is currently pushing for an improved contract with Vitor Pereira’s side, but if negotiations falter, then Everton may look to seize on this opportunity, according to the BBC.

Williams has three years left on his current deal, and talks with the club are reportedly underway.

In his first couple of seasons in Nottingham, the defender occupied the right back position, but his role has since been flipped, and he is now their main left back.

However, the Welsh international has proven his ability to play on both sides of the back line and push up as a winger when required.

Neco Williams has crafted himself a nice position at Forest

After leaving Liverpool in 2022, Williams sought regular game time as he struggled to usurp Trent Alexander-Arnold for the starting right back spot at Anfield.

Forest placed faith in the defender and have managed to significantly increase his value from the £12 million that he was purchased for.

In their most recent match against Newcastle United, the full back was named captain of his side, which goes to show the seniority he has crafted for himself in the team.

Now that Pereira’s men have guaranteed a spot in the Premier League for the 2026-27 season, Williams will likely continue his time at the City Ground, making any deal for the full back improbable.
