It has been a relatively quiet Sunday for Everton, with the international break continuing to provide David Moyes and his players with a pause from Premier League football.
There has still been plenty for Evertonians to discuss, including fresh comments from the architect of Hill Dickinson Stadium, another perspective on the club’s previous PSR problems and three players potentially involved for their countries tonight.
Meis discusses Hill Dickinson expansion
Dan Meis has addressed whether Everton could eventually increase the capacity of Hill Dickinson Stadium, revealing that expansion isn’t impossible but would be difficult.
The architect told the Royal Blue podcast that adding a few thousand seats would be “very challenging”, with the roof design and physical constraints of the Bramley-Moore Dock site among the complications.
Meis has been reflecting extensively on the stadium and its development, including the moment four words from an Everton steward convinced him he had got the design right.
There is no suggestion Everton are currently planning an expansion.
Elsewhere, Everton commentator Citizens of Suburbia has revisited the club’s PSR breaches and argues that the financing required to build the new stadium was fundamental to Everton’s eventual PSR position.
That remains the account’s counterfactual analysis rather than a finding made by the Premier League commission. Its central argument is that without the stadium expenditure, Farhad Moshiri’s equity could instead have been used to reduce Everton’s need for debt and the associated interest costs.
The subject has returned to prominence following Manchester City’s financial verdict, with Everton’s stadium financing already part of the renewed PSR discussion.
Everton were ultimately deducted eight points across two separate PSR cases in 2023/24.
Finally, attention returns to the pitch tonight.
Brennan Johnson and Tom King are with Wales for their Nations League meeting with Denmark, while Jake O’Brien could feature as the Republic of Ireland face Israel at a neutral venue in Serbia.
Both matches kick off at 7.45pm UK time, with all three hoping to complete their international commitments without giving Moyes any additional fitness concerns.
The full schedule and each player’s progress can be followed in our Everton international duty tracker.
